Reason for Stay: Rehabilitation following surgery
Details of Experience:
Dianna was referred by her doctor at Greenwich Hospital and was admitted to The Enclave at Rye Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on February 27, 2023. Her son and daughter accompanied her, and they were warmly welcomed by our concierge and introduced to our interdisciplinary care team, including her nurse and doctor.
A week before her admission, Dianna fell while climbing the stairs to her apartment and fractured her left ankle. She underwent surgery and was referred for skilled physical therapy. Dianna presented as non-weight bearing on the left lower extremity, with decreased standing balance and decreased lower extremity strength and endurance, which affected her mobility at her prior level of function. She would benefit from skilled physical therapy to improve her function and maximize her safety.
Dianna was initially nervous about her rehab journey but was quickly put at ease by the welcoming environment at The Enclave. She even continued working for her law firm in her spare time, and we were happy to provide her with office space. Despite significant pain due to the fracture, Dr. Abbey kept a close eye on her and ensured her pain was managed so she could focus on therapy.
The therapy team worked with Dianna to improve her balance, transferring skills, walking, and all her activities of daily living. She would practice transfers and stair training while being non-weight bearing. Day by day, she made progress and worked hard toward her recovery. Despite experiencing new onset deficits and activity tolerance due to pain in her left ankle, Dianna got to a level where she could return home independently.
Through the help of our skilled staff and therapy team, the big day finally came. She no longer requires assistance with her daily living activities and could return to her prior way of living. She enjoyed her time at The Enclave and is grateful for the support and care provided by our staff. We are thrilled to have been able to assist her on her journey to recovery and wish her well as she moves forward.
